Day 6

Filed Under General | Leave a Comment

I don’t remember exactly what we did. There was mass and other interesting things in the morning. But let’s skip to the celebration.
We returned to the Brambiscalla family home for a 20:00 dinner with everybody. We left a bit before 22:00 but we didn’t really make it anywhere until 23:00. We weren’t really too interested [...]

Day 5

Yet another “Bulgarian style” breakfast, but I’m not complaining.
We visited a lot of downtown today. The Duomo Cathedral and other interesting places. We went to the DaVinci Museum of Science which was semi interesting. I did however enjoy very much the DaVinci room where they showed paintings and other works by him. I was most [...]

Day 4

I’m starting to get used to these very light breakfasts. Reminds me of my U of T days when you wake up (at 7:45) and RUSH to catch that damn bus at 7:55, which is usually a couple of minutes, skipping breakfast entirely. But of course there’s alway the 3 apples that constitute the provisions [...]

Day 3

Filed Under General | Leave a Comment

Riding all night wasn’t too fun but it was ok. We arrived in Milan at 7:00 am and waited a little bit in the bus for someone to come and explain to us what’s going on. Some due came, spoke to us and explained a bit. We entered one huge warehouse and got more information [...]

Day 2

Filed Under General | Leave a Comment

We get up at 7:00 or something like that and our bus departure time was at 8:30. Another day of beautiful bus riding and many hours of doing nothing. I miracously somehow managed to whip out my anatomy notes and cram a little. J got out somekind of dentistry notes. At around 12:oo we arrived [...]

Day 1

Before we start, I’d just like to say Merry Christmas to everyone. My X-Mas was great and I hope everyone else had something similar to mine.
Today’s the 2nd day of Christmas here in Poland…and we’re the only ones getting up at 6:30 in order to get ready for a trip to Milan :) We [...]

Well, there’s some cleaning to do at my place. Some sweeping, dish-washing and other lovely things to be done. Can’t wait to get to that. I gotta pack for that trip to Milan, Italy for the Taize thing. Haven’t figured out yet what I’m gonna be taking. And finally I gotta get wrapping some presents. [...]

Long time no see. We’ll, not much has changed in the academic world. There was a problem with chemistry letting us go as apparently I wasn’t clear enough when I confirmed 3 times with the chem prof that “we have no chemistry in the last week before Xmas.” Obviously his three times repeated answer of [...]

I just filled in the first subject in my green student index book. It’s a book where all marks and course completions are recorded. Basically it’s the Polish version of U of T’s online student record. We haven’t upgraded yet though.
It was pretty easy and the course was really not needed but I guess [...]

In Vitro

Our Polish minister of health, Zbigniew Religa, announced that in vitro will not be covered by the Polish public health fund. He states that
“the health fund is low on finances to be paying for either reanimation (I’m assuming this is referring to rescucitation, as in life saving) or in vitro. I think we should focus [...]

So it seems that the British medical governing body wants to allow nurses and pharmaceutical employees the right to prescribe medicine.
How do I feel about this blasphemy?
Hmmm, kind of neutral. But I also kind of feel that part of being a doctor is the ability to prescribe medicine. Secondly, nurses and other people don’t have [...]

I just read an article on owls and their different symbolisms. Thought it would be cool to summarize.
In ancient Egypt, an owl symbolized death.
In Japan, the appearance of a bird fortold hunger and sickness.
In old Poland, an owl perched on someone’s house meant death to one of the housemembers.
In China people believed that placing an [...]

Oh man am I so happy. I actually got good on the biology test that I thought I did very shitty on. Turns out either I logically deduced my answered or had very very lucky guesses. I know I screwed up the Plasmodium spp. life cycle, but eh, what can you do. I’ll be ready [...]

Dreams

I had a dream…
And in that dream I was sleeping. You still with me? And when I woke up, the table in the room that I was sleeping in…was gone!
Now you may think, “Hey man, it was only a table.”
But I tell you this, the Versailles Treaty was signed at just a table. The panel [...]

Oh man am I pissed now. I was takin’ it easy until damn firefox froze cuz I wanted to upload a stupid picture on Yahoo!, but I’m good now. I managed not to save my previous post but I remember more or less how it went.
So here I am, takin’ it easy by the computer, [...]

Was it unfair? A little.
I (and many other students) studied primarily structures and functions which in our minds and the way the teachers tought were emphasized as the most important things. Pathways seemed to be a low priority. The last thing anybody thought would be the most important would have been the arteries and sinuses [...]

So up comes the neuroanatomy test. Am I ready…sure I am. A bit more studying and I’ll be able to ace it. Just need need to get those damn pathways in order. Anyways, gotta go do some power studying
